Most people go to the Costa Del Sol for the great climate, to sunbathe, laze on the beach and if you are a golfer - great golf!
All of this is on the doorstep of Vista Real Attico. You can sunbathe on our penthouse's very large terrace (90 sq m), with fantastic views of the links golf course and EU blue rated beach which is within walking distance. If you prefer you can use the 23 metre long swimming pool, set in gardens in the shade of palms.
Travel a short distance and the list of things to do is endless.
One of the main benefits Alcaidesa has to offer is a beautiful beach, which stretches over 5 km, with fine white sand and a variety of water sport activities, such as sailing and diving. This beach is also a delight to any avid jogger, but of course just lying down and enjoying the magnificent views to the rock of Gibraltar and Northern Africa, is the most preferred activity. From June onwards all of the beachbars (chiringuitos) open up their doors, allowing you to enjoy a cooling drink, ice-cream or even have a light lunch snack. Make sure you try them! Lifeguards are also on duty during the high-season. Last but not least, the Alcaidesa beach has been awarded the blue flag for meeting high standards regarding cleanliness and environmental friendliness. A wonderful beach in wonderful surroundings!
The proximity to the continent of Africa and presence of the Rock of Gibraltar lends itself to a variety of options. Whale and Dolphin spotting in the Straits of Gibraltar, bird watching due to the vast number of species flying overhead as they cross the Straits during migration periods to and from Africa. There are also natural areas such as the Los Alcornocales Nature Park and the Campo de Gibraltar Nature Park, recently recognised as an important site by UNESCO.
Horse riding, mountain biking and climbing are all available.
This whole website could be dedicated to Golf. Some of the Worlds best courses to enjoy with some of the World's best golfing weather are on your doorstep - literally.
Alcaidesa Links Course is an 18-hole par 72 course. Development for a second 18-hole course well under way and scheduled to be opened later in 2007. Visit the course on www.alcaidesa.com The 17th hole is played out in front of the apartment - watch the golfers and plan your shots before you play.
There are approximately 40 golf courses between Malaga and Gibraltar making Alcaidesa a perfect base. Golf can be played here all year round.
For more information on Alcaidesa and nearby courses, look at the Golf page on this website, which has a link to a few nearby courses.
Wonderful marinas can be found at Sotogrande, Puerto Banus and Duquesa where you can enjoy water sports or simply experience the ambience of the yachts, shops, restaurants and bars.
Where to start? Visit Gibraltar www.gibraltar.gov.uk - take the cable car to the top, visiting Saint Michael's caves and the famous apes. Visit the town of Tarifa - walk down the narrow streets and enjoy the architecture and the beauty of the area, which is Andalusian in every sense of the word. The area also has 40 kilometres of white sandy beaches. Visit the city of Algeciras once the biggest port in Spain and across the bay from the Rock of Gibraltar. La Linea de la Concepcion dates from the time fortifications were built on the spot following the loss of Gibraltar, and is essentially a maritime town, known for its sea-faring ambience and the friendliness of its people. Narrow streets, Spanish tapa bars, old fashioned individual shops, La Linea remain an original Spanish town largely unaffected by tourism. Morocco is only a ferry journey away from Algeciras and worthwhile for a completely different day out, (Africa in a day!) or even an overnight stay. Walk round the old town and bazaar in Tangiers, or let us arrange a guide for you for a tour of the modern and the old.
The boutiques and shops in the narrow streets at Marbella old town is a great relaxing stroll, best enjoyed in the early evening before feasting on an al fresco meal in one of the restaurants in the old square.
Try El Cortes Ingles at Puerto Banus and Algeciras or La Canada shopping mall with over 280 shops for cosmopolitan shopping, while every town has its own local stores and shops.
If you like shopping, you must visit the local markets including Sunday markets at Marbella and Sabinillas and on a Wednesday at La Linea.
A trip to Gibraltar should include plenty time for shopping. Among the local shops and stores you will find electrical goods, perfume, wine and spirit shops at knock down prices. If you are missing a vital ingredient from home, there is even a Morrison's supermarket and a Marks and Spencers.
Eating out in the seven municipalities that form the Campo de Gibraltar is surprisingly varied. In Alcaidesa itself we can recommend lunch at the Golf Clubhouse only a short stroll from our apartment.
In La Linea de la Concepcion and San Roque, some of the delicacies enjoyed by residents include sardines on the spit, garlic clams, grilled prawns, roast octopus and a whole range of other salty fish. There are also many international restaurants to tempt you.
Seafood is especially popular in Tarifa with tuna being one of the star products.
Dishes in Los Barrios usually consist of a delicious combination of seafood and game, which is caught on hunting expeditions in the nearby Los Alcornocales Park. Jabali (wild boar) and venado (deer) are also popular in the areas of Castellar and Jmena de la Frontera.
Obviously you do not need to choose local dishes and a wide range of more familiar UK style dishes can be found in most restaurants in the Costa.
We have a list of tried and tested restaurants in the property, and we are always looking for new additions and recommendations to share.
The varied fresh produce available lends to cooking at home. Why not enjoy the panoramic view from the terrace while relaxing over the barbeque with a glass of Spanish Rioja? Better still, get someone else to barbecue!!
Why not take the train from San Roque to the beautiful town of Ronda which sits high above the Tajo gorge. The journey itself is worth the trip, without the natural beauty of the town, the gorge and the monuments.
Whale and dolphin watching cruises are available from Tarifa or Gibraltar.
Sierra Nevada is 2 - 3 hours drive away and offers superb skiing in season.
Available at Gibraltar and other areas nearby.
The area provides great winds, climate and sea conditions for most watersports and especially sailing. In high season, small yachts can usually be hired from the beach in front of the property.
After a day's golf; a long day duty free shopping in Gibraltar; a day on the beach or a day pottering about on the terrace, enjoy a relaxing BBQ and a few drinks on the terrace while the sun sets.
Don't think that the children will miss out! We strongly recommend a visit to Bahia Aqua Park in Algeciras, which won't break the bank! Get a close up look at elephants, giraffes, tigers etc at Selwo Nature & Safari Park which can be found on the road to Estepona and houses over 2000 animals in the semi-wild. Further away is Tivoli Park, a well established funfair and theme park about 50 minutes away in Benalmadena, and a great day out for all of the family. See the dolphins and ice penguins at Selwo marina in Benalmadena. Not forgetting 'Funny Beach' near Marbella where you can lose the children amongst the bouncy castles, trampolines, go-karts, bumper cars, and bumper boats.
